letters Letter re: Fire in Bariž Sokak
Last week, while repairs were taking place at an apartment block on Bariž Sokak, an accidental fire quickly spread across the roof of the building and damaged both the roof structure and the flats immediately below. While the conflagration was awful news for the owners some reassurance may be garnered by the response of the roofing contractor who admitted liability and offered to foot the bill for the reconstruction of the whole roof. Contractors tend to have a bad name in most places and in Turkey perhaps more so, yet, without delay repair work at Bariž Sokak commenced and, to the untrained eye, seems to have continued at a fair pace, being made watertight and joists replaced within couple of days. While the responsibility of the accident belongs to the contractor his actions after the event reflect well on his him and are a credit to his profession. Mike
