Article 1 Street Dogs in Kas - exploring the issues around the stray dog problem in the town. articles My husband and I spent a relaxing week in Kas. It is a very pretty town with a picturesque harbour, cobbled streets and lots of little shops, bars and restaurants, great for wandering around and spending time people watching. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from so there is no difficulty in finding a different one each night. The evenings become quite lively with bars open late so there are always places to go. Although there is no beach at Kas our hotel had a pool and a great view over the town and down to the harbour. We took a boat trip for the day to the island of Kastellorizo, where we had a few hours to explore the village and have lunch. Another great day out is to do a sea kayaking trip at Kekova, to see the sunken city ruins. All in all we had a great time, the people are very friendly and it is a fantastic place for a holiday or as a base to explore the area and get the adrenaline flowing with one of the adventurous activities that are available. So Kas is full of cats and dogs (not dissimilar to Santorini) if If could feed them all I would! They are not aggressive or in bad condition, some are pets and some are strays all living a combined existence in the town square, restaurants and bars. They are playful and affectionate and lets be honest in some cases hungry...The Schmackos are a hit for all creatures 'great and small' so much so that we have bought some more!
We have been enjoying our Villa and pool with visits into town for supplies and some social interaction. Kas is a small town and we find ourselves now waving hello and talking to the people in bars, restaurants and shops... The Turkish customs and hospitality are lovely. It is not unusual for a shop keeper to offer you a tea, a restaurant to provide some starters or a drink on the house or a bill to be rounded in your favour. We have some favourite places for sure based on location or the food though mostly because of the people. By Brett Madden
