Having spent many years visiting lovely Kas, the golden rule eat where the locals eat still stands. If you want cheap, fresh and authentic cuisine the Nasar about 200m from the harbour mosque, directly up the main commercial street towards the bus station is a winner every time. Indeed any of the small restaurants on that road are cheap and authentic, regularly full of locals from the local council offices at lunchtime. The superbly placed cafe/ kebab restaurant directly behind the harbour mosque offers excellent value for quick lunch. Many of the harbour restaurants are pricey and variable in quality, needless to say the ambiance is stunning so that's why you need to be prepared to pay European prices. Source: Trip Advisor
Kaş has a rich variety of Turkish cuisine which is influenced by Arabic, Caucasian and Mediterranean cuisines. The most commonly used vegetables are eggplant (aubergine), tomato, beans, cucumber, onion, garlic and various lentils. Beef is the most commonly used meat. Lamb is also commonly found but pork is hard to find although its use in cooking is not illegal. A lot of spices are also used in Turkish cooking. The staple food is rice (pilav), bread and bulgur wheat. Food is cooked in vegetable oil and sometimes in butter.
Eating out in Kas is fabulous and fun!
A typical full Turkish meal at a Kebab restaurant begins with a soup. It is usually a lentil soup called mercimek cobrasi, followed by meze, which is basically one or several appetisers made of cheese, olives, pickles, and other small dishes. Meze can be a full meal by itself, especially if it is taken with raki (distilled grape spirits). The main course is meat. Turkey's best culinary export to the world is the kebab, which is grilled meat served in various forms. This includes the döner kebap, (rotating kebab) which is meat shaved from a giant rotating spit. The shish kebab is also extremely popular and is basically skewered meat. The köfte or meat ball is also an interesting culinary invention. You might want to try a pide or pizza house, which is frequently just the place for a reasonably priced lunch in a bustling atmosphere. Pide, also known as Turkish pizza, is a staple Turkish food. Pide along with a beer for two will cost you about 15 Euros. Source: Kas Adventure Travel

Kaş has many places to enjoy a meal, from cheap cafés to upmarket seafood restaurants. While there are spaghetti and pizza places and some international cuisine there are no franchise places such as Burger King and McDonald's as there are in the bigger resorts. Most of the restaurants in Kas serve Turkish food and many specialise in fish and and seafood. The list below is alphabetical and gives information of type of cuisine and location. There maybe a link to a review of a particular place and we are happy to accept critiques here. If we have missed a favourite place from the list please inform us and we'll place it on the pages.

Turkish tea is full-flavored and too strong to be served in large cups thus it's always offered in little tulip-shaped glasses which you have to hold by the rim to save your fingertips from burning because it's served boiling hot. You can add sugar in it but no milk, and you can have it either lighter (weaker) or darker (stronger) depending on your taste because Turkish tea is made by pouring some very strong tea into the glass, then cutting it with water to the desired strength. Serious tea-drinker Turks usually go to a coffee & tea house where they serve it with a samovar (Samaver in Turkish) so they can refill their glasses themselves as much as they want.

Pide is a staple Turkish food and you'll find it all over the country. In touristy areas it's advertised as Turkish Pizza but that doesn't really do it justice. Pide is a long thin banana shaped bread, rolled with some skill from a small ball of dough. The bread is then covered with the topping of your choice and slammed into a large, solid fuel burning oven for about 10 minutes. The resulting pide is sliced up and served piping hot. The most common toppings are listed below. A normal sized pide should cost about $2. Kasarli(kasharla) - a simple, yellow cheese topping, vegetarians can usually get tomatoes and green peppers added to this if they ask nicely. Kiymali(kimarla) - lightly spiced mince lamb and tomato topping Sucuklu(sujuklu} - slices of spicy Turkish sausage. Yumurtlu - egg, usually with a little cheese to keep it company.
