Boasting a spectacular 320 days of sunshine per year this unspoilt area is the perfect year round sunshine destination. Kas lies on the Mediterranean coast and is sheltered from any winds by the surrounding mountains. Temperatures in Kas during the long summer months can head over the 30C mark on a regular basis, but have been known to climb above 35C during the months of July and August. You can expect at least 12 hours of sunshine per day during the peak summer months and practically no rain whatsoever. Information Panel – The Weather in Kas Turkey Source: Direct Line Holidays
Kaş (pronounced Kaash) is a "Turkish Delight" city in the very south (Mediterranean) of Turkey. Kas has several rocky (not sand) beaches but they are quite small, most are less than 10 metres wide. However the rock shelves are wonderful for sun and sea bathing. These are populated by cafes and restaurants which provide free loungers. In return you are expected (but not obliged) to buy drinks, snacks or food from them. Not much remains from this city from when it was established on top of the old city of Antiphellos in Central Lycia. From an inscription written in two languages, we can see that the city under Kaþ was Antiphellos. But the old name of Kaş is Habesos. In the ninth century B.C., Antiphellos was a very small settlement unit and it was the port of Phellos, which is slightly north of Kas. As the Hellenistic age began, Phellos lost its importance while Antiphellos developed and came to the fore. This situation also continued in the Roman era and Antiphellos developed further via the cedar tree trade and sponge fishing. At that time, the city was no longer a port of Phellos but rather a rich and self-sufficient city. Information Panel – Antiphellos (Kas, Turkey) Source: Go Turkey
