Whitewater Rafting on the Dalaman River
Just the mention of whitewater rafting is enough to evoke a pleasurable concoction of both nervousness and excitement. Passing through small caverns, past cavernous gorges, awe-inspiring waterfalls, craggy mountain ridges and lush forests, the Dalaman River is a wonderful place to experience whitewater rafting. Although taking the time to take in the scenery is not always an option with this blood-pumping water sport. Because of its aptness in producing some of the finest rafting experiences and courses in the world, there are several centres dedicated to whitewater rafting and other water sports on the Dalaman River.
Enjoy Grade 3+ rapids, as well as a safari up the mountain, giving a taste of traditional village life and the magnificent scenery of this special area. A full day trip with three or four hours on the river, plus a barbecue meal by the riverside after the rafting.
“This is an exciting day out on one of the biggest rivers in southern Turkey, the Dalaman. Again, no experience necessary but be prepared for an early morning start from Kas for the journey by road to the put-in on the riverbank. After an hour's training and safety instruction, you are ready to enter the water and, with an expert rafting guide, raft down the rapids which are graded up to level 4. The trip is scenic, as well as a little challenging, through narrow gorges and verdant pine forest. There will also be plenty of opportunities to relax by cooling off in sparkling pools and natural jacuzzis, and a picnic lunch is included.”
Canyoning in Kibris Gorge Kaş, Turkey
Canyoning is a new and exciting outdoor activity. Jumping into clear, cool pools of water, and abseiling down waterfalls. Sometimes swimming through narrow passages, at other times climbing boulders, and sometimes walking.
The descents are made wearing wetsuits and carrying waterproof packs and containers. The agencies conform to international standards of safety and use materials of a high standard. All you need is a head for heights, the ability to swim, and a taste for adventure. The best season for canyoning is from Mid-June until the end of September because the water level rises in the late winter and early spring and also because the weather is often too cold after the end of September.
“Wet, wild and absolutely unforgettable. That is what the brochure said and that is what I want. A waterfall gushes deep into Kibris canyon and I have just been told that I am next in line for my harness to be attached to my life line. No problem, it is only a 33 meter vertical drop down into a pool of water! Adrenaline rushes through my veins. This is my first time canyoning, my first time ever abseiling, and they want me to go straight off the edge, through the waterfall, then land in the middle of nowhere. No problem! I take a last gulp of air and plunge into the falls. What a rush!”
